PanAm Expressway Duties and Responsibilities Conducts testing and diagnostic work on mechanical, electrical and other systems Removes and replaces defective vehicle parts Performs brake system repairs and replacement of brake system parts including wheel bearing replacement and packing Performs engine tune-up work, oil changes and lubrication Removes, repairs or replaces defective ignition, air-conditioning, fuel, suspension, steering, electrical and exhaust system parts as necessary Performs State inspections on vehicles in accordance with State requirements Performs transmission service including transmission oil and filter changes Performs maintenance and repair of coolant systems Replaces windshield wipers, weather-stripping, switches and lamps Road tests vehicles for safe operation and performance Installs and removes all emergency equipment on police cars such as sirens, emergency lights, radar units, video cameras, telephones, interior cages, push bumpers and computers/M.

(Mobile Data Transmitters) Performs related duties as required Minimum Qualifications Graduation from High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate, and three (3) years automotive mechanic experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience Knowledge of computerized engine test equipment; knowledge of engine analyzer and compression test equipment; knowledge of general automotive mechanical, hydraulic, brakes, air-conditioning, steering, exhaust, electrical, and cooling systems; knowledge of safety standards and practices Skill in the operation of a variety of power tools; skill in removing difficult to reach vehicle parts; skill in troubleshooting automotive malfunctions Ability to operate and interpret information from computerized testing and analyzing equipment; ability to use different equipment and special tools; ability to diagnose malfunctions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees and the general public Must obtain National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence in at least two categories by the end of probation period (6 months) Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test Must provide or furnish own hand tools Must have a valid Texas driver's license May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek Working Environment and Physical Demands:
Working conditions are primarily indoors with occasional outdoor exposure Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as hazardous fluids (gasoline, oil, fluids, antifreeze, freon, battery acid, and solvents) extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
