Manages the assessment, marketing and protection of intellectual property created at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, San Antonio and assists in the management of the Technology Commercialization operations in the Health Sciences.
Manages a portfolio of inventions and licenses to generate significant royalties and fees and monitors same for compliance. Negotiates, drafts, and executes amendments as needed.Evaluates the commercial potential, viability and patentability of new inventions, identifying new uses, potential markets and market sizes, competing technologies through the use of personal knowledge of emerging technologies, information gleaned from experts, on-line databases, internal tools and programs.
Evaluates the patentability of new inventions and is responsible for selecting the most commercially viable for patenting. Works with inventors and uses on-line databases to identify prior art and competing patents to develop patenting strategies. Selects and works with outside patent counsel to prepare patent applications.Manages the on-going patent prosecution by outside patent counsel (usually in consultation with the licensee) to assure that the patent strategy is followed, expenses are controlled, and patent, copyright, trademark and other intellectual property rights are properly protected. Manages the interaction between the patent attorneys and inventors to ensure that high quality patents are obtained.
Independently develops and implements licensing strategies for a portfolio of technologies, identifies and cultivates qualified companies as potential licensees and evaluates business and marketing plans. Proposes financial terms such as up-front licensing fees, running royalty rates, and due diligent milestones to ensure that the licensee is required to make an effort sufficient to commercialize the technology. Negotiates, drafts, and executes options, licenses, and monitors same for compliance.
Bachelor's degree with two (2) years related experience.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a Life or Physical Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Experience or knowledge in scientific and business due diligence to make informed decisions on early stage innovations; and demonstrated effective communication and human relation skills required. Entrepreneurial, communication and interpersonal skills are critical for success in this position.
An advanced degree in specific area of assignment (Life, Physical or Computer Sciences) or business is preferred. Work experience in an industrial field specific to area of assignment (Biomedical/Biotechnology, Physical Sciences, and Chemistry) is strongly preferred.
Previous university administrative or research experience, or familiarity with the university environment preferred. Work experience in a university or industry technology transfer/ commercialization office preferred.

The preferred candidate will have at least 1 years' experience commercializing complex inventions stemming from work within the medical field, specifically academic medical institutions, and/or previous industry experience in developing bioinformatics, healthcare-related software, therapeutic, or diagnostic products.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
