Research Assistant 2015198
This grant funded research assistant will join a small laboratory within a larger research group (3-4 faculty, 1-3 postdoctoral fellows, 7-8 research assistants, and 2-4 graduate/undergraduate students). The successful candidate is expected to interface with the entire laboratory group as well as with others within and outside of the Health Science Center. The research is this laboratory is conducted 7 days a week and the incumbent WILL BE REQUIRED TO WORK SOME WEEKENDS within a normal 40 hour week.
Conduct preclinical studies in a behavioral pharmacology laboratory. Responsibilities include handling small animals (rodents), prepare and administer test substances, conducting behavioral experiments according to IACP approved protocols, and collection of data through electronic and manual means. In addition to maintaining the health of the animals, this individual will be trained to perform routine surgical procedures required for the completion of the experiments. Specifics regarding behavioral experiments will be discussed in greater detail at the job interview.
Perform a wide variety of general lab maintenance duties including, but not limited to, maintaining histories on experimental subjects, cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment, maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies, and routine cleaning of the laboratory.
Perform a variety of data management duties including, but not limited to, organizing and maintaining data spreadsheets, preparing graphical representations of data using commercially available software, performing basic descriptive and inferential statistical analyses, presenting and discussing research findings within both small and large group formats.
Bachelor's in a basic science.

We are seeking a highly-motivated individual that is able to work independently, pay attention to detail, and troubleshoot experiments and equipment, as needed. Experience handling small animals (rodents) is preferred.
