SUMMARY

The Senior Communications Specialist/Content Manager works to develop and drive new and existing enterprise communication channels for the company, including the creation and implementation of content strategy for those channels. This hands-on role will facilitate a collaborative editorial process and participate in sourcing, scheduling, creating and editing communications for multi-platform distribution. Serving as the managing editor, this role will focus on effective storytelling and content delivery for topics including community partnerships, sustainability, safety, and people and culture, in support of MPC s business objectives. The role will also be responsible for incorporating insights gleaned from analytics and feedback into decision making and performance measurement. This includes balancing a mix of consulting, educating, writing, editing, project management and content development skills to navigate complex topics and an evolving business landscape. This role is part of the Communications organization and reports to the Manager of the Digital, Social and Communications Operations team.

This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate s experience and qualifications. This role can be based in either San Antonio, TX or Findlay, OH.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a collaborative editorial process to ensure efficient workflow from content sourcing and development through scheduling and publishing across multiple channels
  • Engage in the development, documentation and execution of channel and content strategy to effectively tell MPC s story to the company s range of stakeholders
  • Provide strategic counsel on communications, change management, employee experience and engagement best practices
  • Create and manage communications deliverables including strong writing, editing and guiding creative design
  • Utilize internal and external data and feedback to regularly assess channel and content effectiveness to better target and elevate engagement
  • Identify, explore and test new communications strategies and tactics, including the use of digital technology and platforms
  • Implement communications strategies that support MPC's Sustainability and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion goals and reinforce an inclusive company culture
  • Collaborate across the Communications organization on goals and messaging, aligning content with the company vision, business strategies and values, as appropriate
  • Coordinate with other Communications team members to holistically manage communications timing and sequencing; provide guidance and support to less experienced team members, and contribute to the overall development of the team s collective skills and expertise

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelor s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or related field required
  • Minimum 8 years of experience (10
    years preferred) producing communications for a variety of channels and audiences at a medium to large-sized corporation or public relations firm
  • Demonstrated capability of leading communications initiatives from beginning to end
  • Energy or manufacturing industry experience preferred
  • Some travel required

SKILLS

  • Strong understanding of internal and external communications strategies, particularly as it relates to managing cross-channel content development and publishing
  • Demonstrated capacity to be highly creative, analytical and data-driven at the same time
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all types of employees, from front-line workers to executives
  • Strong written, editorial planning, oral and presentation skills; quickly delivers compelling communications under pressure; demonstrated ability to present complex business ideas, strategies and results succinctly and persuasively
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage social media engagement in support of business objectives
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, continuously changing environment with a high-degree of autonomy, accountability and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to details; ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently and with little oversight
  • Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to build strong relationships
  • Knowledge of communication and change management techniques, methods, processes, and best practices, including knowledge of Associated Press style
  • High curiosity; eager to learn and understand a wide range of subject matter, particularly in the areas of oil and gas operations, sustainability, community investment and employee engagement
