Learn to drive a Stick Shift / Manual Transmission Private Lesson (San Antonio) in San Antonio, TX
Looking to learn how to drive a stick shift (same thing as a manual transmission or standard transmission)? Its my passion to train people how to do it! You do not need any prior knowledge or experience, just a drivers license! My lesson usually runs a little less than 2 hours, but if I feel like you need more time, I have no problem going over 2 hours. I'll provide the car, unless you wish to use yours. In which case I offer a discount! As of 2023 I have been teaching for 15 years now! And over the years I have dialed in and improved my teaching methods to the point where I have never had a student not be able to drive around on their own by the end of the 2 hours! Patience, taking baby steps and being kind is the key! As of 2023 I charge $75 for my lesson, but due to inflation and fluctuating gas prices, this may change. I take cash or crypto. I will teach you: •How to start a car with a stick shift •How to stop and go with the clutch pedal •How to prevent stalling •How to use the shifter, including putting the car into neutral without using the clutch pedal •How to shift gears all the way to 4th gear, including by skipping gears •When to shift •How to start in 2nd gear and use Reverse •Graduation is demonstrating you can prevent rolling backwards from an incline What this lesson does NOT cover is more advance techniques like Heel-to-Toe, Clutchless Shifting, Power Shifting, and Perfecting Smooth Shifts up and down. The reason I do not focus on trying to get you to shift smoothly is because even if you managed to shift my car smooth, all manual transmissions are different and the skill would not transfer over to another car without practice. I will teach you what you would have to do to shift smooth in any car but it isn't what I'm focused on in this class. I feel its more important to know what to do to hone in your skill later. I'm looking to see if you are developing muscle memory for the proper sequence of events. I use the Gus Stadium parking lot because its public and the largest open parking lot I know of. No refunds of course and I'd like to schedule at least a day in advance. I reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. I prefer you do not bring anyone with you with us in the car. There are places around the parking lot for them to wait. You are more than welcome to film the lesson. Bring a drink and dress comfortable! I can transport any road worthy car or motorcycle equipped with any transmission for you. You are responsible for providing insurance. If you just bought it, I will need to have on hand proof you did in case I get pulled over, which may happen if it has no plates. Prices start at $50 if you are close to me. Depending on how much time I have available, I may be willing to go 1 hour out in any direction from downtown, which if thats the case, I'd need $150 cash because a chunk of that would go into paying for a ride back.
